Date: 2013-12-05 05:41 pm (UTC)Except he lives so close. And he's here, right now, looking at her in a way that makes her feel a little pinned down. Katniss freezes, first, like a deer that's caught sight of a predator--but then she turns, reluctantly, to face him fully. If she just looks at the bread instead of Peeta, she can carry on a short conversation, and then excuse herself. She focuses her gaze there, but doesn't yet step closer to accept it from him.]
Yeah. I know.
[The cookies Prim brings home end up on the thin china plates stocking the cupboards, the ones Katniss always feels like she's going to break if she looks too hard at them. Peeta's cupboards have the same plates. All of the houses in the Victor's Village do, all except Haymitch's. He'd broken all of his china long ago.]
You're really good.
[The compliment is reluctant, too--not because she doesn't mean it, but because she doesn't know how to deliver it, or how much to say. It comes out short, gruff.]

Thank you.
Do you want...anything? I have a lot.

Date: 2013-12-08 04:03 pm (UTC)This is fine. Thanks.
[She makes sure not to even come close to doing something stupid, like accidentally brushing his fingertips with hers, or even coming close to that.]
Maybe some cookies. For my mother, and Prim-- then she won't have to stop by.

Date: 2013-12-08 05:05 pm (UTC)Are you coming?
[It's almost a challenge. Are you brave enough to deal with it?]

Date: 2013-12-09 06:47 pm (UTC)The smell of bread--of baking--what was just an alluring distant smell is overwhelming indoors, and Katniss' stomach grumbles a little. She's hungrier than she would have thought.]
I can't even see the cookies, there's so much here.
omg dw send me my notifs B|
Date: 2013-12-13 12:20 am (UTC)They're in the back of the cabinet. Just over there, next to the apple and cheese tarts.
[Goat cheese, a gift from Prim.
The cookies themselves aren't iced yet, he hasn't had time to mix the icing and fix the colors.]
If you wait, I can ice them.
