Date: 2013-12-06 05:36 pm (UTC)There's things she could say, about Christmas gifts, and manipulation. But she doesn't say anything.]
So you're sore 'cos you get crap presents? And that makes you want to go around ruining Christmas for everyone?
[She whistles, low and impressed, through her teeth.]
Wow, Mildred. Well done. Were you made prefect for your maturity, or just because you kissed the right arses? Or was it your good marks and your air of superiority and judgement?

Date: 2013-12-06 08:36 pm (UTC)Her voice is brittle.]
Well-spotted. I got subpar presents. I reel at your cutting insight.
Keep it down or I'll report you.
[And she intends for that to be the end of it.]

Date: 2013-12-06 10:38 pm (UTC)Yeah? Join the club, Mil.
[That's for the subpar presents line. She grins, showing her teeth a little. And she's not going to qualify that comparison; she just goes on:]
But you don't see me trying to bring other people down. Maybe you should try being a bit louder to compete, see if that makes you feel any better.

Date: 2013-12-06 11:42 pm (UTC)Is a response that Mildred doesn't quite understand.
She turns back to the other girl, her eyes narrowed in confusion. Her response to the presents question was so flippant, because it was so wrong, that it's already left her head; she's left utterly lost.]
Join what club? The reporting-you club?

Date: 2013-12-07 06:38 pm (UTC)[That's the problem with having weak points, you reveal your hand too easily. Mirsam turns away, dismissively, raising her wand again so she can finish fixing the bundle of mistletoe into place.]
D'you know what this is?
no subject
Date: 2013-12-07 07:06 pm (UTC)Mistletoe?
no subject
Date: 2013-12-08 04:27 pm (UTC)Got it in one. Know what we do with mistletoe at Christmas? I'll bet you do know, and you probably hate it, it's too cheerful for you, and invasive of personal space, but I'm going to do you a favor, Edgeworth. I'm going to give you some of this mistletoe, to use as you please.
this seems an awful lot like the set-up for smut
Date: 2013-12-08 05:06 pm (UTC)Unless I can use it to plug my ears so I needn't hear any more of your abominable whistling, I don't think I want any, Black.
uh oh u r on to me........
Date: 2013-12-09 05:58 pm (UTC)[SHE LICKS HER LIPS oh my god this is porn isn't it. No just kidding she just sort of rubs her lips together.]
Dry mouth. Anyways, it's yours. It bites, so be careful.
[She gestures, with her wand, so the mistletoe she was about to hang above the door floats away from it--growling in protest, angry and savage--and then, sharply, Mirsam waves her wand again, and the mistletoe splits in half, with a rustle. Now there are two floating bundles of mistletoe, and two times the growling.]
Here, catch, or else it's just going to fall on you and bite you--
so onto you
Date: 2013-12-09 06:41 pm (UTC)sadly turns off the 70s porn music
Date: 2013-12-09 08:43 pm (UTC)Mirsam is a bit heartless. But she's also not going to let someone actually have their face bitten off by the mistletoe she has bred and enchanted to wreck harm. Light harm, that's what it's meant for. Not dismemberment. So with Mildred distracted by the bookshelf, it's up to Mirsam to save the other girl from the mistletoe--which she does; she sends it careening across the library, where it smacks into a bookshelf and falls to the floor, snarling--
And Mirsam turns, immediately, mistletoe dealt with, to add her strength to keeping the bookshelf up--]
Move--
turns it back on to spite you
Date: 2013-12-09 09:04 pm (UTC)Well, that's unexpected. Mildred is momentarily distracted staring over at Mirsam, because surely if there's anything that the girl would enjoy, it's seeing her not-quite-enemy causing a domino effect of toppling bookshelves. But her distraction lets the bookshelf dangerously sway and dip; she snaps her gaze back towards the bookshelf and strains to pull it back upright.
The thing about these sots of spells is that it's not just a strong spell that you need; you also need to be at the correct angle. So Mildred, sitting on the ground with her legs tangled in her robes and what feels like a spectacular bruise growing on her tailbone, is pretty useless with righting the bookcase. Her spell hits at all the wrong angles. It's really up to Mirsam.]
.....keikaku dori 8*>
Date: 2013-12-09 10:49 pm (UTC)[She growls that out, because come on--]
Do I have to do everything, would you-- move, move your stupid arse, get out of its way--
[If she lets up with the spell, the bookshelf will fall. But she's just doing a sort of modified levitation charm, nothing that will really hold, she needs to do better, but she can't let up--with a growl, Mirsam jumps forward, flicks her wand, once, quickly-- there's a whistle in the air and the spell is released, the bookshelf begins to fall again--
But timing, good timing saves it, at least for now--the released spell gets replaced by a stronger one, by something very like a shield charm--Mirsam, with her arms braced out straight, one hand clutching her wand, the other palm out, like she's holding something back, her heels digging in to the floor--]
Move!
I don't speak Death Noteian
Date: 2013-12-09 11:07 pm (UTC)[And finally, stupidly, she does untangle herself, she does get up. She does shuffle away, wand still pointed, still feeling very much dazed by this turn of events. It's a problem of hers, perhaps - not so skilled at thinking on her feet, a bit better at mulling things over - and that's why it sometimes takes about four repetitions of move to even get her to stand up.
And when she does, she offers, a little breathlessly - ]
Just hold on - I'll get behind it, straighten it up from - from back there -
didn't you learn anything from me all those years ago
Date: 2013-12-10 07:59 pm (UTC)[Mirsam snaps it out, not unkindly--just desperate, just the sound of someone working really hard to keep this bookshelf up and do not cock it up, Merlin, do not cock this up for her, Edgeworth-- but at least Mildred isn't going to be crushed to death now--]
Stay there, and help me--we can push it back up from here if we do it together, don't go-- moving around--
God it was so many years ago
Date: 2013-12-10 08:39 pm (UTC)[Mildred realizes - or...not realizes, thinks, because surely this isn't the case - that Mirsam is so snappish and frantic out of...concern for her. Perhaps? Not that Mirsam is anything like a sadist, not that she's cruel or likes seeing people hurt, but nor is she really the kind of person who'll shout at you to keep you from injuring yourself. Right? She's one of those sorts who just dances through life, who doesn't have any concern for anything...
Save that she's clearly concerned right now. Save that she's clearly desperate right now. And it's not just to keep a bookcase from clattering over and making some noise.]
All - all right -
[She stammers out, and self-consciously takes in a breath before raising her wand and casting another spell. This one has the right angle; she's less stunned and less out of breath, and so this is a good strong spell. This is enough to right it, gently rocking it back upright.]
right?? sort of scary.
Date: 2013-12-11 05:57 pm (UTC)Once it's back in place, Mirsam drops her arms with a sigh. And she knows she has to fill a silence that's going to be awkward, so she's quick to look around at Edgeworth--]
Merlin, but you're thick, I thought you were meant to be clever.
I miss us back then. So young...
Date: 2013-12-12 02:50 am (UTC)[She's stung by that. Any awkwardness is gone at once, because her reaction is immediate and loud and quite outraged; awkwardness is automatically obliterated in the face of such full-throated squawking.]
You just didn't make your plan clear!
the wee baby hope
Date: 2013-12-12 06:36 pm (UTC)[She arches her eyebrows at Edgeworth, distinctly unimpressed.]
Or if you'd learn to read body language. Or move faster. Just don't ever take up quidditch, all right, or it'll be a solid losing streak. Once you got it together you did all right, but, Merlin.
Excuse me you were more of a baby by far
Date: 2013-12-12 07:18 pm (UTC)[She hunches down a bit further, her face reddening. There's really...nothing that she can say to make it less pathetic, and so even though she tries, all she can mutter is:]
Well...thank you...for...helping.
excuse ME you're younger than me....
Date: 2013-12-12 11:00 pm (UTC)Yeah. Well. Wasn't going to just stand here and watch you be crushed by the bookshelf. What the hell good would that do?
Years-wise, maybe.
Date: 2013-12-13 03:43 pm (UTC)Yeah, well. It's...It still deserves thanks. And so I'm giving you thanks.
what does that mean
Date: 2013-12-13 11:08 pm (UTC)[She folds her arms over her chest, glaring down at her feet as well. After a moment:]
Are you going to Hogsmeade, next weekend.
that age ain't nothin but a number, but also the opposite of that because it's a state of mind
Date: 2013-12-14 12:07 am (UTC)[Edgeworth had started to retreat, hurt by that harsh rebuff of the thanks, but that question - stiff and unpleasant and crabby - throws her off-guard.]
I...Hogsmeade weekends are when the castle is quiet. I always stay behind to study.
it's too early for me to comprehend that
Date: 2013-12-14 12:24 pm (UTC)I'm not even surprised. Never, you never go?
I'm saying you're young at heart
